چکیده

Many applications require querying graph-structured data. As graphs grow in size, indexing becomes essential to ensure sufficient query performance. We present the GRIPP index structure (GRaph Indexing based on Preand Postorder numbering) for answering reachability and distance queries in graphs. GRIPP requires only linear space and can be computed very efficiently. Using GRIPP, we can answer reachability queries on graphs with 5,000,000 nodes on average in less than 5 milliseconds, which is unrivaled by previous methods. We can also answer distance queries on large graphs more efficiently using the GRIPP index strucutre. We evaluate the performance and scalability of our approach on real, random, and scale-free networks using an implementation of GRIPP inside a relational database management system. Thus, GRIPP can be integrated very easily into existing graph-oriented applications.

Querying Ontologies in Relational Database Systems

In many areas of life science, such as biology and medicine, ontologies are nowadays commonly used to annotate objects of interest, such as biological samples, clinical pictures, or species in a standardized way. In these applications, an ontology is merely a structured vocabulary in the form of a tree or a directed acyclic graph of concepts. Typically, ontologies are stored together with the d...

Hop Doubling Label Indexing for Point-to-Point Distance Querying on Scale-Free Networks

We study the problem of point-to-point distance querying for massive scale-free graphs, which is important for numerous applications. Given a directed or undirected graph, we propose to build an index for answering such queries based on a novel hop-doubling labeling technique. We derive bounds on the index size, the computation costs and I/O costs based on the properties of unweighted scale-fre...

Tree Signatures for XML Querying and Navigation

In order to accelerate execution of various matching and navigation operations on collections of XML documents, new indexing structure, based on tree signatures, is proposed. We show that XML tree structures can be efficiently represented as ordered sequences of preorder and postorder ranks, on which extended string matching techniques can easily solve the tree matching problem. We also show ho...

Linked Data Querying through FCA-based Schema Indexing

The efficiency of SPARQL query evaluation against Linked Open Data may benefit from schema-based indexing. However, many data items come with incomplete schema information or lack schema descriptions entirely. In this position paper, we outline an approach to an indexing of linked data graphs based on schemata induced through Formal Concept Analysis. We show how to map queries onto RDF graphs b...

Cost-based optimization of graph queries in relational database management systems

Graphs occur in many areas of life. We are interested in graphs in biology, where nodes are chemical compounds, enzymes, reactions, or interactions, which are connected by either directed or undirected edges. Efficiently querying these graphs is a challenging task. In this thesis we present GRIcano, a system that efficiently executes graph queries. For GRIcano we assume that graphs are stored a...
